HI all (Andrew), I was looking for a way to migrate a server from one ESXi server to another incrementally, I think.

So I have a server that is like 2 T on a VMware server, I want to image it over, then be able to migrate it to another VMWare server, then be able to just migrate the changes over.

Like if it's going to take a long time I can do it, then when we have a small window get people off the server, then zap over the changed files, shut off the old server boot up the new one and done.

I was trying to figure it out in Veeam, but got stuck.

Thanks all.

Use VMware Converter in “sync mode!”

This will do what you need to do!

See my Tutorial here step by step with screenshots just use VMware Converter 6.2 and follow the same procedure

HOW TO:  Synchronize changes when completing a P2V or V2V with VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.1

It is simple to do this

1. Start the conversion and let the first pass in sync mode to complete the initial seed this can take as long as you like.....

2. When initial sync has finished

3. 24 hours before cutover run the sync again to update recent changes

4. Then organise scheduled downtime

5. Now cut over run sync again...

6. Do final sync and cut over and your done.

Shutdown old VM start new

I read the article, looks like with the scheduler function, it could be a nice little nightly backup of the file server.

some still use VMware Converter as “poor man’s backup” but it’s no real replacement for Veeam Backup and Replication!!
