iPhone 8 plus versus iPhone 7 plus

Looking to upgrade my wife's iPhone 6 to a 7 plus or 8 plus.  I generally buy used phones if they cost enough less than new.  Is this a good strategy?  Second question is if 8 plus is worth the extra cost. I looked over the specs and many of them are the same.  She enjoys her iPhone but she's not a power user.  Likes the idea of a larger screen mostly.  Also looking for any suggestions as to good places to buy a used phone.  We use Consumer Cellular which is AT&T.
Thanks,
Al

If I need to buy a used phone, I always go on ebay. Just read the description the seller posts because they tell you state and status of the phone. i have had no issue yet buy from ebay. Just be sure to read the information the seller posts.

Well i might not be able to suggest a good place to buy used phones in your area, but as being a certified Apple technician i regularly see the customers coming with issues after purchasing a second hand phone with a lot of mysteries in their history. In my opinion 8 Plus A11 Bionics is better performing under heavy loads, battery almost last as same as 7 Plus, both have 3D touch if it is a concern

I can get a new iPhone 7 + at Consumer Cellular for $400, iPhone 8+ for $700.  To me that's a significant difference. Considering how my wife uses the phone I don't feel the extra cost is warranted. In terms of new versus used I would have to be able to buy a decent used iPhone 7+ for perhaps $100 to make it worth it.  My theory is that if you can get four of something used for the price of new, go for it. One dies, take out the card and put in the other. Unfortunately I don't see that sort of savings in listings I've looked over, unless I put in lots of time bidding and watching listings. I'll probably go for new.
