Veeam Backup - Error: managed session 036b4aa3-e42a-46aa-b847-7367588c123f has failed

Dear Experts,

My customer using Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 U4.

We amended the host file of the Veeam server to point the IP address to each servers FQDN

The mistake happened when I created the backup jobs using the FQDN but the ip address was the production IP.

I have guided my customer to remove the backup agent but when he tried to run the backup job, he gets the following error:

Error: managed session 036b4aa3-e42a-46aa-b847-7367588c123f has failed

Turned out it was due to lack of name resolution support in my test cloud environment. Looks like the VBR server sends its FQDN to the target agent during setup. If the agent cannot then resolve the FQDN successfully it results in this error (at least in my test environment). Adding an appropriated hosts file entry and restarting the Veeam endpoint service cleared the issue.

You need to do it on the endpoint as well as the server apparently

Can you please explain to me why i need to do the host file at the endpoint as that server is not using any DNS to the backup.
