Connecting to a Crystal Report Dynamically

Greetings

Is there a way to pass to a Crystal Report the database connection? What we are hoping there is way to pass the the report via the VB.NET application the database to connect. This way whether we are publishing our application to a Test/Q&A server or to a production server, we do no need to edit the connection in each report prior to publishing.

Maybe its a long shot because i don't do Crystal Reports now days and it was working on an ancient cumbersome version (8.5) but this youtube video :How to Dynamically Change Crystal Reports Database Connection looks like it does what you want
Another I prefer is to push datasets to CR. This way the report is totally unaware of any databases. I wrote an article showing that available at https://www.emoreau.com/Entries/Articles/2016/10/Crystal-Reports-for-Net-revisited-10-years-later.aspx

The method has changed considerably since CR8.5

Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with sub reports? Do you create separated xsd files for the sub reports?

Have you ever notice a performance issue with this method?

Thanks

I am sorry for not getting back to you. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to test the suggestions. I am closing this request for now.

Eric

I do like the idea of just sending the data to the report.
