https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly?id=vrughLHv7-LfXilg5Zu_Ng  Hi, the site has been mobile friendly for some years now, I see their screenshot shows the site sort of off to the side, but I don't see that in Chrome inspector.

Can anyone help me with that? thanks

The complaints are:
  • Clickable elements too close together
  • Text too small to read
and have nothing to do with the placement of the graphic on the screen.

The link they give you to help address their complaints is: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6352293

I would start there.

I checked this page about a month ago, and it was mobile friendly. I think the complaints are due to the issue I mentioned. I can enter this as a new question if you like, aimed at why the page is appearing like that?

I see what you mean, and I can't easily duplicate it in Chrome, either. In fact, the only way I can get a similar result, is by making the page very (>200px) narrow.

Is there CSS specific to very narrow pages?  I'd guess not, but it may be worth looking into.

I'm going to need to ask for more help with this. I think I'll open a new question just asking why it looks like that on google and how I can test it.

Hi, Just a note, I can replicate it on the Brave browser, using their tools.

This is hurting my brain. If I make the body tag have a width of 125%, it fixes the issue on that tool.Same if I make the html tag have a width of 125%.

And now when I refresh the page on the same browser. It's fine. Ok, time for lunch.

OK, but one more thought: Maybe I have too many containers on that page.

I think it's the way the Google tool interprets your code.  You could add some CSS so that when the page width is very narrow, you set the body width to 125%.

So using a media query? Like:

@media only screen and (max-width: 200px) {
  body {
    width:125%;
  }
}

That actually might be working, tried it on my dev site. Thanks, I'll keep working on it.

I tried this on live, but Google is still seeing it as not mobile friendly. Does Google cache pages in this test?

Author

Commented:
Bing says it is mobile friendly. This page is mobile friendly
Viewport configured correctly
Page content fits device width
Text on the page is readable
Links and tap targets are sufficiently large and touch-friendly

So does the small seo tools test. But Google, in any browser I test, says nope, not mobile friendly, and shows that screenshot.

I do think Google is in the wrong here, as hard as that is to believe.  It may not be the viewport per se, but some combination of things that is causing it to "fail" your page.

I'd forget about it and move on.  Maybe revisit it in a few months to see if Google has it fixed.

Hi, I was able to narrow it down. The problem went away (on google mobile test) when I deleted the How to Start section. I was further able to narrow it down to see that the classes  animated bounceInDown  were causing the problem. So I will delete those classes for now, and probably open another question to see if I can get help with that.

Thanks, Paul.
Removing classes  animated bounceInDown  resolved the issue and made the page mobile friendly.
