Configuring Exchange Web Services

Configuring Exchange Web Services

Following this article: http://www.mustbegeek.com/configure-external-and-internal-url-in-exchange-2013/

I would like to know if the configuration of the mentioned web services is done on the CAS server or can be done on any Exchange Server role ?
on the similar context, the author wrote an article here: http://www.mustbegeek.com/configure-url-redirection-in-exchange-2013/

but it did not explain what is the difference between Default Website and Exchange Back End in IIS Manager.

Any Help will be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Exchange Web Services will be configured on CAS server.
i.e. You will do it on Default WebSite

Please explain what you are trying to achieve.
Till Exchange 2013 there were CAS roles which can be split and install on multiple servers. But if you go for Exchange 2016/2019 it has only two roles. Mailbox and Edge Server role. The mailbox server role itself has the CAS role. If you have multiple Exchange 2016/2019 mailbox server roles then you should do for all servers.

For previous to Exchange 2013 and 2010 you have multi roles where in you can set only on the CAS servers.

Exchange Backend in IIS and Default Website Virtual directory should not be modified. Whatever you perform you shall perform only in Exchange management shell which applies appropriately.
