How upload an old DVD to the cloud so I can stream it

I have an old DVD that I love dearly and I want to upload to my cloud and see it any time.  However, when I was about to upload, I thought it was just mp4  files of but it's not.   The DVD is compose of two folders "JACKET_P" and "VIDEO_TS" where the last holds about 4 or 4 GB of data (mostly VOB files) also had 3 files in the root folder of AUTORUN.INF, dvd-rom.exe and go.exe.  I could contact the guys that did this recording but my colleague tells me that that is the format since it has menus and other stuff.

I just want to save my DVD, if possible with the same menu options, in my cloud account and be able to see it anytime and from my computer, iPhone and iPad.  Anyways, I have received a whole bunch of advice that just don't make sense, so help please.

Better to upload the whole DVD as the 2 folders (VIDEO_TS,AUDIO_TS)  and leave it as it is...this would be your backup ...or if you want to download it each time and view it on a software DVD player ...or burn it for a physical DVD player.
If you want to have it streaming ...you can surely forget about the menus and maybe some cool buttons effects (if you have) and settle for  transcoding the DVD to mp4.

So there is no apps that convert the DVD to mp4 that will include its menus?

Yes, I could save it to the cloud but it would for only backup purposes; downloading over 4gb of data not a good idea.

You say I can convert to mp4 and forget about the menus? Ok, but are the VOB are the actual videos? (I assume this because they are big)

The most popular transcoder is Handbrake : https://handbrake.fr
The menus are just small videos that are controlled by the .IFO to lead to other videos based on the buttons selected...

If u guys have used these apps for DVD/VOBS, what am I doing wrong here?
John TsioumprisSoftware & Systems Engineer

Commented:
Now it gets interesting...maybe you have a misformed .IFO file...it was a common way to protect DVDs...in this case you have to convert the VOBs without the info on what goes where...if you are lucky the video will follow the order of VOBs...if not the video would start for example on VOB3...play a few minutes..jump to VOB2...play few minutes...and it goes on.
Use VLC to open the VOBs to check if they have the video in logical order...

Also something else..is this a commercial DVD...or a personal DVD..e.g wedding.
If its commercial DVD it has copy protection and i think the support from EE ends here...if its personal...then photographers also developed some cool trick to avoid copying.

It's a personal DVD but created by a professional personnel...  how to I know it's protected? could that be it?
i would have to agree with @John Tsioumpris - probably a locked DVD
John TsioumprisSoftware & Systems Engineer

Commented:
As i said ...professionals worked out their own tricks...the physical DVD players were more resilient to tricks like BAD .Ifos, deliberate scratches and some other...so they used them to make copying harder...just copy the contents of the DVD to your HDD and check the VOBs

What can i do to make sure it is protected?
John TsioumprisSoftware & Systems Engineer

Commented:
At first copy it...can you copy it to your drive?
Then play it via a software player ?...does it play well and shows correct order of video ?
John TsioumprisSoftware & Systems Engineer

Commented:
If you succeed on the above probably is not protected and you just have a bad .IFO...just play the VOBs

Found the solution and free.  I have download a series of apps including the 2 recommended here Handbrake and videoconvertor.  Unfortunately non worked.  However, after searching trial & error, i found it:

- First, the apps used for the solution (worked for me), was John's recommendation Handbrake (already got it).
- After go to VLC site
- Click on Project at top menu
- Select 'libdvdcss'
- Look for 'release' and click on it
- Select 1.2.12 (it's the folder for windows)
- Choose your operating system
- The file 'libdvdcss-2.dll' appears, right-click and download
- Copy over 'libdvdcss-2.dll' to the Handbrake apps
- Run Handbrake (now it will read copy-protected).
- From this point on, choose how to convert
- and Done!

And basically that's!

At this point I am playing around with the different formats to finally decide which officially to use to convert my VOB.

Sorry David, when I typed in my solution, didn't see your entry and I am assuming like all other apps will not work on protected DVD .

Thanx Guys!
