Exchange 2016 CLAS

Hi Expert

We have in our environment exchange server 2016 with an enterprise license

Plus we have CLAs standard CALs

Now I want to enable the archiving and I got to know that this need enterprise CALs

So because I don’t have enough information about exchange licensing I would like to ask you the following


User mailbox                                    yes I know this need CAL

mail contacts                                   I don’t know if this need CAL or not please update me here

Distribution group                        as I know does not need CAL

Shared mailbox                             as I know does not need CAL

Room mailbox                               as I know does not need CAL

mail-enabled public folders        as I know does not need CAL


about shared mailbox as I got to know that if  I need to archive these type of recipient I have to buy enterprise for them but if don’t archive them just use them as it I don’t need to buy CLAs for shared mailboxes

please clarify this for me
