Migrating from win7 to 10
Hi
I'm about to migrate from Windows 7 to 10, Fresh install on a new PC and I'll need some stuff of the old pc
FireFox history, bookmark & passwords (I think this is none by copying profile
More important: and i'm lazy
I have a copy of office 2010 which I understand will work under 10 I Don't need the functions of 365
I think you can extract Outlook setting from the registry in 7 but is this compatible with 10's registry?
Is there a free way of saving the passwords for email account?
HDD will go over to the new PC do I need to remove user ownership prior to move or is this done once in the new PC (JBOD, not in a Raid)
Anything I've missed?

I assumed clean install better as gets rid of the rubbish I also thought upgrading caused many programs not to work requiring reinstalling anyway?
In did upgrade my Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 pro and did not see any problem with installed programs. Only some very old programs which were actually designed for XP had some issues.
In any case you can take backup of your Windows 7 and then do upgrade. If anything goes bad you can install Windows 10 clean and take from backup you files and data.
Go always the simplest way.

most upgrade problems come from incompatible drivers or softwares
i found that in most cases the upgrade works fine
BUT a fresh install is better ( gets rid of rubbish and old problems)
in the end, it is your decision what you choose
btw - i often take an image backup of the old drive, so ican retrieve any files, or even re-install it if needed

I get what your saying having slept on it I think I need to do a clean instal I've been having issues with this version of windows
Performance / really slow boot
MS Viso install is started when running several programs
programs not compatible with 10
to name but 3
Which leads back to opening question regarding Outlook settings and passwords

slow boot is usually caused by a slow disk - 5400 rpm , too little free space, or too little free Ram

I'm closing this even though the original question regarding extracting outlook passwords wasn't answered
