Which version of MS SQL server comes with SBS 2011, do you have a plain vanilla SBS2011 that you can check.

All of my clients that run SBS2011 have additional SQL server instances with different versions, so I am unable to tell for sure.  Please no guesses.

SBS did not come with SQL.  The roles that needed it used with "windows internal database" feature which, while SQL based, is not a fully licensed version fo SQL.

Unique to SBS 2011 though was a "premium add-on" SKU. As the name implies, it was an add-on purchase.  That included a second server license to run SQL on and included SQL Server 2008 R2.  But if they are legally licensed for the premium add-on, the paperwork for that is pretty clear.

It should be SQL server 2012.

The definitive answer is that SBS 2011 Premium Add-On came with an additional Windows Server license plus a SQL license both on 2008 R2 as mentioned by Cliff.

Yes, Line of Business (LoB) applications can come with their own version of SQL Server Express or Standard. So, yes, you can end up with a bit of a mess on your hands if there are multiple LoBs installed.

I pulled out one of my technet ISO and spun up a VM.  If anyone else needs other questions answered (not guessed) drop me a note
