GPO - Install Fonts on Win10 Machine

I am trying to configure a GPO to install a font on all my Win 10 machines.  I have followed several guides that are found everywhere online and the only part i'm having issues with is the fact that the GPO will not copy the font file into the C:\Windows\Fonts folder.

If I specify a different folder, such as C:\Temp\ OR even C:\Windows\ the font files are copied without an issue.

I am using Group Policy Preferences (Files) under "Computer Configuration".

What is so special about the Fonts folder in Win10?

Anyone have any suggestions?  I don't want to use PDQ Deploy or creating an MSI file.

How do you do that - install fonts by GPO?

Only thing I can think of is to de-inherit ownership and protection of the Fonts directory, take ownership as Administrators, then set Write permission for Users.  It is not a clean solution, it is frankly abusive of Windows built-in protections, and I would not be surprised if Windows disallows this.

There is surely a better solution and I expect someone will be along shortly to reveal it.

@Medrx...

See my recent solution:  https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29156666/Deploying-fonts-to-windows-users.html#a42933322

Also, although I haven't tried it, McKnife posted: "...Win10 v1809 and newer allows users to install fonts without having administrative permissions"

Hi,

Create New GPO for example 'Fonts Installation' --> Copy files to Fonts folder --> Edit the 'Fonts Installation' GPO User Configuration --> Preferences --> Windows Settings --> Files --> Add Registry --> Assign GPO to OU.

Cheers
