Viptela's difference with router

Viptela in network have a lot router's function and also is used as edge router connected to ISP. It looks like Viptela has very similar function with regular router. And router such as ASR1K is used as edge router connected to ISP and it also has same function as Viptela. I wonder due to what function of Viptela we use Viptela instead of ASR1K? Thank you

viptela is a software defined WAN solution the ASR1K's can be managed by viptela. For a small.medium network provisioning devices is relatively easy.  Once your network grows it becomes harder to provision and to change the provisioning as time and demand changes. This is where being a software defined network shines it can adapt to the changes and allow provisioning from a central location.

Thank you for reply. And sorry for the delay due to another project.

The viptela that i mentioned above is vEdge router. So my question is what is difference between the vEdge router and ASR router functionally?
