I have a content database for a site collection is getting too large.  I would like to split it.  Do you know how I can expand the DB without creating a larger DB and migrating data to the larger DB?  I would like to split the content DB into two DB's.

A site collection cannot span two databases. When you mention creating a larger DB I am not sure I follow you, because your content databases will grow as the content grows so no need to create a larger one, unless your databases are configured not to expand.

Generally MS recommends to keep content databases under 200 GB, but the actual limit of what SharePoint 2013 can work with is much higher.

Is there anyway to split the site collection in to two or more site collections. If there were possible, you could have a content database for each site collection.

Good luck...

Walter Curtis - I figured that was the case.  I was just wondering if someone had some SharePoint magic out there.

Sorry no magic. I could use some of that too...
