Local DNS namespace needed
Im being asked to create a local namespace Montoya.ourorg.com and then have it NAT to that servers IP
I have dns running with the dns role, but that’s how far my knowledge goes.
Apparently they want to be able to address users like user @myserver.local
Not sure where to go

It’s a brand new 2016 install. It only has admin as a user right now. I added the dns feature.
Is my first step to create a zone?
Where. Clearly I am lost and greatly appreciate the help

Do you have other domain controllers or not, DNS should replicate with other authorized servers in the domain.

actually there are no zones at the moment. This is for an app that’s on the server. the app provider was trying to authenticate using aname@servername.local and it was not working. that’s when he requested the dns nameserver. I asked how, but he said he didn’t know
Okay, well the installation guide is in my previous post. It will show you how to set up the DNS zone. If this zone is only for one application, it may not be so critical to do a great deal of planning.
Let us know how it goes.

Be aware nobody in the world can send mail to any whatever.local address when used as a mailserver.
Any mail will be local only.

Thank you all for your help!
What operating system/DNS product are you using? Do you know how to create a DNS zone in it? It sounds as if you need to create montoya.ourorg.local and point your network to that DNS server.
