Hello all,
I had double auth. using Microsoft authticator on my iPhone.
upon replacing my iPhone, I love my authenticator app, as I noticed I was supposed to enable icloud backup within the app settings itself.

anyways, I tried logging into Microsoft account, to notice I forgot my password, and I lost my authenticator app.
I can try guessing my password, but it would take the too many attempts.
I tried using the authentication with my alternate email address, but it wasn't enough, I had to use the app still as dual authentication.
I am unable to reach out to Microsoft for support.
although I still have access to my emails from outlook and ios mail.
any ideas?

when I try to reset my password I get two options

alternate email and authenticator, and I should use both of them 1 is not enough.
how can I use the text?

Don't try to reset your password. Try to guess the password and hopefully you will get it, then the Multi-factor Authentication will give you other options like call or sms. When you get in you should be able to configure the Authenticator on your new phone.

Tried guessing,  but now it’s saying I tried too many times, and giving me those Microsoft weird captions to ensure I am not a bot. Harder than my math exam. Starting to doubt I am a bot. I’ll continue trying... but is there a way I can make Microsoft contact me on my email.. the one I am trying to reset ?

Is this a free retail account like hotmail.com or live.com or outlook.com or is it a business Office365 account?
If it's a free one I'm not sure if you can contact them but if it's a business account the Admin should be able to reset that for you.

Even if Microsoft contact you on your email, they cannot and will not help you to reset your password.

For Microsoft, you will never make it for verifying that you are the account owner as they rely on an automatic password reset system.

you're following the instructions @ https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/17875/microsoft-account-reset-or-recover-password ?

The content below is taken from the above link and my experience for helping a friend to retake the ownership of his Hotmail account which has been hacked confirmed that advocates are not allowed to change account details or send password reset links. The final outcome was my friend cannot retake the Hotmail account as the recovery email address has been changed by the hacker.

What if my request wasn't granted?

We recommend that you try again, up to two times per day. You may find more information or have remembered something that will help.
A customer support advocate ("a human") will not be able to help you beyond what you can do for yourself in the form ("automatic password reset system"). To protect your account and its content, advocates are not allowed to change account details or send password reset links.
You can always create a new account if you’re having trouble with the recovery request and try again later when you remember something new that might help.

Google is definitely doing a better job for password reset when you compare it with Microsoft.

From my recent experience, there is a human who responds to my request for my Gmail password reset within a week and they will send you a password reset link.
