Today a new chipset comes out every six months, same for CPUs, there's a North bridge, a South bridge, a PCI bridge, and thousands of other chips for ancillary functions such as IDE, SATA, RAID, serial, keyboard, USB, WiFi, Ethernet and sound.<br />

So, software that can test everything isn't possible. &nbsp;On some Dells, however, there is a built-in diagnostic which tests the motherboard and memory, and that's pretty good as far as it goes.
