Hi Expert,

Need advise on how to configure mobile device to connect exchange LAB environment using my home router?

Currently i have setup the exchange lab, i'm able to access my exchange OWA using my mobile data through browser, but how can i test the mobile active sync?

I tried to export self signed cert from my exchange server and installed the cert into my iphone, but still couldn't receive email through outlook mobile apps.

Is it possible to be configure/test?

Thanks.

Self signed cert are not compatible with Exchange Active Sync.. u need a third party cert..

If u planning to test many thing like exchange, adfs etc.. go for a cheap wild card certificate to complete ur tests

Hi Raj,

This is my lab testing environment only,is there alternative way to test activesync other than signing up SSL cert that require real domain name?

Hi C Y,

Please read this article about the certificates available that can be used on Exchange servers..

As it is a lab, to save the cost.. u can use a self signed certificate or a certificate from a internal certificate authority (Active Directory).

Those 2 type of certificates can be added into mobile devices to trust the connection (in theory).. bit most of the mobile devices won't support it.. you will end up in retries only..

Hi Raj,

Thanks for the helpful comment, i did try to use self signed cert, but it failed as you predicted.

anyhow, i just need to make sure my exchange active sync work, if i surf through mobile web browser with URL https://exchange.test.com/microsoft-activesync url, can it be tested that way?

First it will throw an error for certificate warning as not trusted.

2nd.. You are accessing Active Sync Virtual Directory using the above link in web browser and it wont give expected result. OWA can be accessed in web browser like https://exchange.domainname.com/owa
