Chrome keeps seizing itself as default PDF app

We are currently facing the issue that chrome.exe registers as pdf default app as itself. We set the filetype association for adobe reader or other pdf applications during logon, which is working fine.
Unfortunately Chrome will register as default app during the day and because of this pdf files will open in chrome which is quiet annoying. We already disabled the following setting in chrome - unfortunately without luck. Chrome still keeps registering as default app

Update: The problem can be reproduced when uploading a PDF file to a web portal (eg Web CMS). Once the PDF has been uploaded, the user's file type association (FTA) will switch to Google Chrome.

We might have found a (or our) solution

We were deyploing a registry key which was setting the default pdf app for windows 7 by group policy object. The registry was setting the option by defining the app in HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pdf\UserChoice

The problem is that windows 10 / server 2016 handles the app assignment diferent than windows 7. As soon a app will be set as default filetype association a hash will be generated based on user, application, time and so on. Because of the missing hash the entry was not valid and had been reverted back to the system default app (in our case adobe reader). Unfortunately i cannot tell why chrome was hijacking pdf association but after removing the gpo registry key the problem has gone too.
