Word 2016 Opens And Immediatly Closes
I have recently installed Office 2016 Plus on Windows 10 Pro where there was a previous version of Office 2010 Pro.
Everything works perfectly with one exception. Word 2016 opens and immediatly closes. It doesn't matter whether I open it via a shortcut or by double clicking on a .docx file. If i is the double click method it displays the document contents for maybe 2 seconds befor closing. There is no Error Message that I can see.
I have uninstalled my previous Office 2010 Pro.
After searching the web I have tried the following, restarting when required but I still have the problem.
- Completed a Quick Repair of Office.
- Completed a Complete Internet Repair.
- Uninstalled the Office 2016 Plus, restarted and installed Office 2016 Plus again.
Please help ASAP!
Thanks,
Bob C.

Find out if it's a profile related problem or not: try as another user.

Hi McKnife,
I just created a new User and tried Word 16. It still opens and immediately closes.
Thanks,
Bob C.

Please start windows in safe mode (hold shift pressed while clicking on restart allows you to choose it). Does it happen there, too?
If that doesn't change a thing, now start word in safe mode, too, as shown here: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-start-microsoft-word-2010-in-safe-mode

Hi McKnife,
When I try to boot into Safe Mode it does take me into some startup / troubleshooting options but Safe Mode isn't one of them.
In Non-Safe Mode if I try starting Word 16 in Safe Mode it doesn't give me any option it simply opened and then immediately closes.
Thanks,
Bob C.

Hi McKnife,
I succesfully booted to Safe Mode. I can't run Word 16 or Outlook 16 in Safe Mode.
Thanks,
Bob C.

Hi McKnife,
While I was waiting for your response I called Microsoft Support and they somehow resolved the issue. They didn't tell me how and I have no idea what they did. My best guess is that had to do with my Microsoft Accoiunt in some way.
I opened the Event Loog but there is a multitude of information. Can you be more specific as to what you would lioke me to provide?
Thanks,
Bob C.
