email forward message is in effect and now it does not forward emails (office 365)

I had an email address that had a forward on it.  It has worked up to this week.  I went into the admin portal for office 365 and I see the message attached.  Why did this come or become a problem now and not before this week?  The forward has been on and working for the last 2 years.  
I have done what the message says and now it does work.

If no changes on the settings.. please do a message trace for that forwarding address to understand the failure if any..

Login outlook.office365.com/ECP.. go to message trace and track the last 24 hours logs for recipient as forwarding email address

I have it fixed already.  The question is why did it start to not work only  last week?  This forwarding scenario has been setup this way for the last 2 years.
Microsoft may identify these kind of forwarding options, stopped it and provided an option to fix by users.

But, there were no official communication shared about this activity .
