Windows 10 User experiencing latency using On-screen keyboard - what can I do to fix it ?

Hi,

I have a friend who has a spinal injury that has confined him to bed. He uses a Windows 10 PC, which is connected to his flatscreen TV for a monitor.

For a mouse, he uses a Kensington Expert Mouse (Trackball) and his keyboard is the Windows On-screen Keyboard, that comes with the Ease of Access Tools.

In recent weeks, he has started experiencing latency problems when he tries to type using the trackball and on-screen keyboard.

My first thoughts were malware or a virus, so I scanned using Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, and Avira, and did not find anything. I also could not find anything in the WIndows Event Logs that could point to a problem.

The only other program he has open is Google Chrome, which he uses to access on online game.

Can someone please suggest a course of action to try to remedy the problem?

Thanks

check the installed softwares, and remove all not needed - or unknown ones ( google them first)
you can also do a system restore to a date is was ok
You need a new trackball mouse which is certified for Windows 10.

Is the lag with the mouse cursor or typed characters appearing (or both)?
Is the trackball wired or wireless?
Windows 10 uses the basic Windows Mouse HID to talk to the trackball but also check their audio drivers are up to date as Realtek (especially) chipset drivers can impact on this.
And open Task Manager > "More details" to see what proportion of the system resources are used

ASKER

Hi,

Thank you for your replies.

Following up on my previous question, the lag is when characters are typed using the onscreen keyboard, and the Kensington Expert Mouse (Trackball) is wired.

Masq - Can  you please explain how audio drivers could affect the onscreen keyboard?

Thanks
