Hi,

We have received a HP laptop that does not turn on properly.

It seems to be a Windows 10 laptop.

I have tested this laptop and what happens is that the laptop powers up fine, goes to login screen fine but after logging in there is only a black screen displayed on laptop screen.

Every 10/ 20 seconds, the login screen loads back and when you click anything on keyboard, the black screen displays again.

Here are some things I found:

- The mouse pointer can be seen over black screen.
- Pressing "Windows key" and "P" brings up Project menu with four options which can be navigated through but not picked
- Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not do anything
- Ctrl+Shift+Esc does not do anything
- After black screen displayed for a few seconds, pressing a key makes the black screen slightly brighter

What should we do to fix this issue?

Thanks,
Robbie

Are you able to start it to Safe Mode?
In a login menu hold the shift key and click on power option and select restart by holding shift key further.
It will show you menu. Select safe mode. Check if it loads normally.
I recently had a very similar issue with my Windows 10 installation.
In safe Mode however I was able to activate inbuilt Administrator account via commandline. After activating it I was able to get to normal Windows interface by loading Administrator account. Check if you can do the same.
Hi,

The problem seems to be solved.

I powered off and on the laptop using power button.

After logging into this laptop, usual black screen appeared but displayed on the black screen was a "Windows updating" message and a percentage of progress.

This Windows Update finished and the laptop works as normal now.

To test that the black screen problem did not appear again, I restarted and turned off/ on this laptop a few times and no black screen on login now.

Kind regards,
Robbie
