How long do i get WSUS critical and security updates for SQL Server 2012 SP4?

We have numerous instances of MS SQL Standard 2012 in our environment. MS's product lifecycle page shows SQL 2012 Service Pack 4 as supported until July 2022.

I'm seeing different information regarding MS support for Critical and Security WSUS updates. Am i reading it right that if we install SP4 on those we will continue to get WSUS critical and security updates but may have to pay a fee if we call MS as they are in extended support and no longer mainstream?

Do i have that correct?

They'll still release patches and fixes, but won't add features during the extended support window. And doesn't occur as much as it would've before the extended support window (lower priority).

Pretty much. Warranty support goes out the window. However, they can opt to provide some complimentary support in limited cases. Here's the documentation from Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14085/fixed-lifecycle-policy

So if we have a critical issue, MS will support us if we pay extra for that ticket - if you will?

Essentially, you're paying for the support you're getting from them, unless you're lucky enough for them to have some level of support for free (don't hold your breathe for this one).
