Screen flicker and sudden hang in once a while

Hi Expert,

I am having a weird issue on my pc that I am unable to figure out but suspect graphics card or motherboard issue, having run diagnostics and no issue are found. This started just after 8 months. Below is the symptom.

- pc monitor sometime will flicker once
- lost display after trying to wake up from sleep mode
- sudden hang and having "er" sound for 2 seconds then back to normal

I am using graphics card Gforce GTX 1080 and motherboard ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming on windows 10 pro.

Below are the things I have tried.

- change monitor and HDMI port and cable still the same.
- Install the latest graphics and BIOS drivers from the official website.
- Windows 10 and other drivers all at the latest.
- Take out the graphics card and re-sat back.
- The monitor refresh rate on 60hz

Thanks

did you clean the fans on video cards, and cpu ?
i s uppose your power supply can handle the load - but how much watt can it deliver?
can you test with another graphics card, or power supply ?
you can also create a new user account, and check if it happens then
and run sfc also : http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2895-sfc-command-run-windows-10-a.html
Is the system overclocked at all? If so set everything back to basic defaults and see if the problem still occurs. One particular thing worth checking is the speed of the memory in your PC and what the BIOS is set to. Setting everything back to BIOS optimised defaults and ensuring that the memory speed matches what is actually installed may help.

Does it happen if the PC has only been on for a short time, or does it only happen when the PC has been operating for a while? How often does it happen? Can you identify any commonalities?

Some people say that this kind of thing can be sound drivers and others that it could be network drivers. Check whether there are newer (or more stable older) versions of applicable drivers.

It also may help to think back to when the problem started. What changed back then? Was a new piece of software installed? New drivers? A Windows update?

If it is a problem that happens very frequently when you are just browsing the net, for example,  try booting a live Linux distribution and do the same. Does it suffer from the same problem?

One final thing. Don't make many changes at once. Change one thing, then re-test. It may be a combination of things, but you are more likely to identify the actual fault if you keep the changes to a minimum.

Hi Expert,

Thank you for reveting back.

- Upon checking that is very little dust, it's a new pc
- I am using a power supply with 750w
- Don't have another graphics card to try
- The new user account still the same
- It' will happen even after 5mins
- sfc scan and it's nothing found
- The system not overlocked, no new hardware install
- Bios is set to correct RAM
- Tried to roll back old graphic card driver still same
- Constantly updating Windows 10

Should it be graphic card or motherboard right? But this kind of strange issue Asus and Palit won't replace for me, they will ask me to run all the diagnostic check which won't find anything

Thanks!
test with burnintest : http://www.passmark.com/download/index.htm

and there are other tests you may like
If the PC is self-built, you will, as nobus suggests, need to run your own diagnostics to identify the root cause of the problem. If the PC was built by someone, is it under warranty? If so, personally I would return it to them or at least give them a call to explain the problem. They may have encountered it before with your specific build and may be able to advise.

In your above list you did not mention anything about networking. Try disabling all network adapters and see if the problem still occurs. Apparently, this can be the cause of the issue you describe.
Hi Expert,

I have done with the burnintest already and all passed, it's self build. The test does not include motherboard test. Disable network adapter still the same.

Thanks!
Have you tried a Linux live bootable distro, such as Linux Mint? Does it exhibit the same problem?
