Does Hotmail automatically inform sender’s server for email marked as Junk or Phishing?

I am using hotmail, if I ever marked any email as Junk or Phishing or clicked Block, will hotmail automatically inform the sender’s server about I marked their emails as spam? I recently noted that a genuine sender said I marked their emails as spam previously (which I did not recall I did), and they stop delivering any emails to me now until they reverse this situation from their servers.

It will considered a bad sender at the recipient server only (hotmail).. next time if you receive any email from them. based on your previous action.. either to mark as Junk or block.. the recipient server will respond to those email..

If junk.. mail will be delivered to junk folder.. if blocked by you.. sender will get a notification by hotmail server that recipient blocked the emails from that sender.

@Rajkumar.. please prove the above

No nothing is sent back to the sender of the email as this would only validate to the spammer that the email address is active. For this reasoning many servers don't send a non delivery report outside of their organization. This way the spammer doesn't know what is a real and a monitored email address. So basically sending the email goes out to a black hole and only if there is a response does it validate the email address is active and monitored.

Hi Billy,

Can you please share the screen capture the error message that say you have blocked it ? for reference..

I Understood from that when blocked.. no notification to sender and you wont see the blocked email as well.. . Sorry for the wrong update..

@David, what you said is right.. have added an address to blocked senders.. still receiving email.. not sure it will take time to get the address address added in blocked list for my account.. will give some time to recheck..

I'm accepting your statement.. But, author confirmed that the sender received a note about the block by hotmail recipient.

If the sender is a verified SNDS member then yes, they will be notified if the receiver:

  • marked their message as spam
  • added them to their blacklist

SNDS  is restricted to owners of network IP space and is part of the Microsoft (Hotmail, Outlook.com, O365, etc) antispam effort.
