Does Workflow Manager support in-place upgrade of the operating system?
Does Workflow Manager 1.0 support in-place upgrade of the operating system? We have an ongoing effort to retire all of our Windows 2008 servers, and I'm trying to determine if it's possible to perform an in place upgrade of the OS from Win2008 to Win2012 R2. Our workflow manager instance is hosted on a dedicated server, outside of the SharePoint farm. If needed I can build out a new server running 2012, but I'd like to just upgrade the existing server if it's possible. I can't seem to find anything about this online. Thanks.
workflow manager as its name implies helps you manage sharepoint workflows. It is not a system management system. You would need a deployment manager to do this i.e. WDS/MDT/SCCM/ManageEngine or simply do it manually

Yes David, sorry my question wasn't more clear. What am I asking is on a Windows 2008 server with Workflow Manager installed, can that machine be upgraded to Windows 2012 R2? Or does a new server have to be built and the Workflow Manager scopes be re-configured?

David is correct of course on all of his points. A few other things to consider. If you are using SSL (https) with workflow manager you may have to refresh the certificates if that is not done automatically.
Also, the installation of WFM is minor compared to other things, so if you have to remove WFM before the upgrade and reinstall fresh that shouldn't be a big problem. You can install WFM using the IIS web platform installer.
Hope that helps...
