asked on

2x 24-port patch panels or 1x 48 port?

Hello
It is better to have  two 24-port patch panels or one 48-port panel?.  We are making a single IDF closet for 4 floor building and all UTP cables will run to single closet. As per cabling contractor, the cables are under 90m length.
IDF is currently designed to have 12x24 patch panels and 7 access switches.
Also is it good idea to have single IDF closet ?

Any thoughts ?

Thanks Dr.Klahn.

So we can use single 48 port switch with two 24 port patch panels and if we put one patch panel above and one below the switch to clean up the cables.

Can you please also advise on second query in original question.

We have total 350 data points running to this closet.
Contractor quoted us 12x24 port patch panels and 7x48 port switches with 1m and 3m  patch cords.
In this case patch panels would be at the top and switches at the bottom.
So is that fine and practically good or any other better suggestions

@Les Moore: That looks awesome.
This is what it would look like the way they want to do it..
The first one looks more professional, neat and clean. Easy to manage
