Demoting Windows 2008 DC and removing Server
I am trying to demote a Windows Server 2008 as DC and uninstall AD/DNS, I have already promoted the WIndows Server 2016 with AD/DNS/DHCP/FSMO Roles
I tried to run the DCPROMO to demote and got an error "DCPROMO was unable to remove DNS Delagations from the Parent Zone...then i went in to Server Manager and remove Roles and tries to uninstall ADS/DNS and it just hangs on Initializing removal and does not process any further.
Any Suggestions appreciated on how to remove these roles, we are demoting the Server and taking it offline

Open powershell as an administrator on the domain controller and run the below 2 commands
1. Import-Module ActiveDirectory
2. Uninstall-ADDSDomainContro ller -RemoveDnsDelegation
1. Import-Module ActiveDirectory
2. Uninstall-ADDSDomainContro

Fox, neither of those commands worked, error out

ALL the Active Directory Features are not working or functioning, showing anything, just that ADDS/DNS are still installed and I can't uninstall them, so I am wondering do I just un-join from the Domain and power it down, thoughts?
Have you previously tested shutting down/disconnecting this 2008 from network and whether the new 2016 functioned without a hitch?
ASKER
no but will try that and will see what happens.
>>DCPROMO was unable to remove DNS Delagations from the Parent Zone
mmm what's the parent zone?

not sure what you mean?
Did you check the IPs listed in the nameservers tab as noted above?
That's usually the issue, then you can demote it as normal without a workaround.

thank you all again for taking the time to provide input.
check the nameservers tab in dns to see what entries this server has in there.
