Make photo storage and retrieval easier

Google Photos does not seem to replace the Local Galery included with my Samsung Android phone.

I wish the local gallery wasn't there as I would prefer to only use one seamlessly integrated online location for pictures rather than having both local and online storage.

Any assistance in making this whole local vs online photo storage thing a little easier whether Google or some other service would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ted,

What do you mean when you say Google Photos doesn't replace the local Gallery app on your Samsung? Can you go to Settings on your phone and change the default photo app to Google Photos?

When you take a picture, does it automatically load the picture into Google Photos? If it doesn't, it might be a setting in the Camera app on your phone. You may need to download the Google Camera app from the app store to have your photos automatically sync with Photos.

Another option that might work is in your Google Photos app, does your local photos show up when you click on Device Folders? You can sync Device Folders to your Google Photos account.

My wife has a Samsung phone I can look more into your issue later on. Just let me know how Google Photos isn't working the way you want it to.

Hi Martin,

I'm trying to figure out what is happening. The only Camera app I see from Google LLC is something called Cardboard Camera. That doesn't sound like it would be it.

Can you chat in real-time?

Hi Ted,

Sorry I don't have a lot of free time during the day or evening to do real time :( Got a new infant in the house :)

We can try to start from the beginning.

You want Google Photos to detect any pictures you take on your phone and then upload them to your Google account right?

1. Can you view any pictures taken on your phone in the Google Photos app? Do you have to do any intermediary steps to do so?
2. Does your Google Photos app sync anything from your phone?

I understand your concern but it cannot be done with Samsung phone as their Gallery app is integrated tightly with the UI of Samsung phone.

If you really want one Photos app only, you need to get a new phone running Android One.

https://www.android.com/one/

My new Android phone is Xiaomi A3 which is running Android One.

Android One is basically a lite version of Android 9 OS. In Android One, call recording apps like ACR works without problem while the phones running the Android 9 OS cannot run call recording apps.
