I'm considering between the above 2 models of used laptops:
x230 i5 with SSD 8GB RAM for S$208  or
x230 i7 with HDD 4GB RAM with a Trendmicro AV for S$295

I do have a spare unused 250GB SSD in store room, so the
SSD is not that crucial.  Guess I can always use free AV out
there, doesn't have to be a licensed one.

So which of the two are more worth buying? I'm using the
laptop for capturing/cropping videos, copying GB of files to
USB HDD, Internet surfing, possibly watching youtubes.
Which of the two will better meet my above needs better?

I do have 3 pcs of spare x230t Kingsener batteries lying
around, so if both above models don't come with
batteries, I'm not so concerned.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-3520M-vs-Intel-Core-i5-3320M

The link above appears to indicate that i7 3520 is typically 3 times
the price (or more) of i5 3320?   While the performance comparison
when using all cores show only about 10% difference, the single
core performance of the i7 is almost double.  While watching a
HD video, is single or multi-cores being used?

If I'm not mistaken, the i7 comes with Displayport (ie HDMI?)
while the i5 comes with SVGA port.  For watching HD videos
on modern TVs, guess the HDMI gives best audio+video.

The above is what I gather from various i5 & i7 models at
eBay
