Any personal recommendations for an adobe acrobat replacement?  Im looking for personal recommendations, not results from a google search.

Foxit is an option.  I want the full bells and whistles, ideally for circa. $50 or less.  Possibly with student discount or NHS discount if offered.

For circa $50, I don't think that you can beat Tracker Software's PDF-XChange Editor at $43.50 or PDF-XChange Editor Plus at $54.50:
https://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-editor

They even have a free version that is very good. I show a few of the free version's features in these five-minute EE video Micro Tutorials:

How to rotate pages in a PDF with free software - PDF-XChange Editor
How to OCR pages in a PDF with free software - PDF-XChange Editor
How to password-protect a PDF with free software - PDF-XChange Editor

But for editing and as "an adobe acrobat replacement", you'll definitely want one of the paid versions.

Yes, Foxit is another option, and it also has a free version with some great features, two of which I show in these other five-minute EE video Micro Tutorials:

How to scan to a PDF file with free software - Foxit Reader
How to put a date-time stamp on a PDF file with free software - Foxit Reader

But, once again, you'll want a paid version as an editor and Acrobat replacement, which is what Foxit calls PhantomPDF:
https://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf-editor/

However, at $129, even the Standard version is well beyond your circa $50 budget.

An idea is to go with the $43.50 PDF-XChange Editor or $54.50 PDF-XChange Editor Plus and the free Foxit Reader, although I don't know if there's anything that the free Foxit Reader can do that the paid PDF-XChange Editor (or PDF-XChange Editor Plus) cannot do.

As a disclaimer, I want to emphasize that I have no affiliation with the companies mentioned in this post and no financial interest in them whatsoever. I am simply a happy user/customer. Regards, Joe
I purchased a student subscription from Foxit.
