Internet Explorer crashes when trying to PRINT

User generated imageHi,

 I have two windows 10 computers where IE crashes with the message posted when I click File from the menu and choose Print.
 The computer runs fine whenever IE crashes.
 Other browsers like Chrome and Firefox run just fine.
 I have tried to reset IE and uninstall/reinstall IE, but to no avail.

 Can you help?

Hello,
While I cannot pinpoint the source of your problem, maybe you could try the following:
- Have you tried defining another printer by default, like "Microsoft Print To PDF" before attempting to print via the File-> Print ?
Let me know if this helps.
Kind regards,
John

@John
I set Microsoft PDF Printer as default printer and tried to print from IE, but it crashed.

Try running it in safe mode (Start, run, "iexplore -extoff"). IF that works, go through the extensions and start removing/disabling them.

@Brian,

 I tried C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe -extoff, but IE still crashes.
Okay, so problem is not an Extension, per the Expert John we know it probably isn't a printer driver since you can't print to PDF, either.

Make sure you have the latest driver for your printer. I know it isn't the most obvious thing since the problem happens with PDF as well, but it always pays to have the latest, and if you decide to call the printer manufacturer, they are going to ask you to do that anyway.

I know it doesn't seem likely, but try and turn off any other program that is running as well (such s antivirus). Again, we need to isolate the problem as much as possible, but can't run in safe mode because then the printer wouldn't work.

SFC /scannow --> did not help.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth      --> did not help.
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth        --> did not help.
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth   --> did not help.
Hello again,
Clearly this is not an easy issue to troubleshoot, but I came across an article online https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/4e168569-ebf6-4d15-b28f-c8d15717e7a0/ie-11-crashes-when-trying-to-print?forum=ieitprocurrentver

They advise (according to user thomasm516) to

- [remove] the (...) printer (...) [log in] in as the administrator, (...) [go] into Print Management (printmanagement.msc *) and (...) [try] to delete the driver package.  [if needed, stop and restart] the print spooler, (...) [before] to remove the driver package.

After this, reboot the computer, reinstall the printer with the newest drivers.

This solution for Windows 8.1 / IE 11 may be helpful. Who knows.
Cheers.
John
