RDP working intermittently
Guys I have a windows 2008 R2 server that has decide to allow connections randomly. Sometimes the client will try to login and it gives the "remote desktop cant connect to the remote computer" and then sometimes itll give you the login prompt and then display that same message. And finally, sometimes itll let it go thru and they can login. All users are remoted in from windows 7 workstations.

So were connecting to RDP across a vpn tunnel. We have also tried machine local to the server. All of the same, sometimes you can connect, sometimes is instantly throws up the error "remote desktop cant connect to the remote computer", sometimes its give you a login and then the error after your type the credentials.
you have to check whether the issue correlates to a loss of Internet. Or check whether the VPN reestablishing on the first attempt.
Much depends pn the VPN I.e. Whether a "new" tunnel needs to setup to allow the new user
I.e. Do people complain of sudden loss no matter how short that their session appears to hang/freeze?
Or on the first attempt that gets the error, after acknowledging the error, the next attempt goes through?

I have verified that this issue isnt related to the VPN. It happens from local machines, Wan connecting machines and also VPN machines.
Look at the event log, application, system and see if you have network interface related event.
There has to be an event that could explain, sone external failure to licensing server, or internet detection possibly contributing to the intermittent....

Theres nothing in the event log. Its like it doesnt even hit the server or the server doesnt log it.

I dont think its a network connection issue because once they are connected they do not lose the connection. The system has 4 nics. They all connect via Ip address not hostname.
do you have an IP on different segments?
the issue is whether when the connection is initiated to which IP the connection is made,
one of the four IPV4 ips, or one of the four IPv6 reflected for the host?

One path allows access while the other the allowed rule has been overlooked.
When the issue cones up, what is the ip on the originating system?
