Hoe can I get wireless to see available wireless networks?

I have an HP laptop.   All of a sudden the wireless cyonnection is enabled, but it says there are no wireless connections available.   THere are wireless options available but this adapter will not show any.   When you left click on wirelessicon in lower right corner, it gives you a choice to turn on manually, 1 hour, 4 hours, next day.    Any idea how to stop this and show wireless networks?   It is an HP running win 10

Some laptops have a mechanical slide switch on one of the edges to disable the wireless.  I've seen it where turning that off still shows that you have an adapter, but no connections will be shown.  Take a look for that.

On this laptop there is no mechanical switch nor any function key with a wireless icon on it.
Ran Windows updates and it started working.   Thanks for help
