Hi,
I'd like a formula to select data where first letter in a name = U
example
                               formula
UABCD   46            =46
ABCD     32            = 0
ACDE     46            = 0
UACDE 50              -50

Many thanks

Ian

Still not clear on your data?

Are UABCD 46 in 1 column or 2?  Why not post a sample workbook?

Assuming A1 hold your text such as 'UABCD   46' then you could do something like
=VALUE((IF(LEFT(A1,1)="U", RIGHT(A1, LEN(A1)-FIND(" ",A1)),0)))

Assuming that these are three columns (UABCD, 46, result), put the following formula in the third column:
=IF(LEFT(A1)="U", B1,"")

Another way is this...

Assuming your name is in A2 and it's corresponding value is in B2 then try this...

=(LEFT(A2,1)="U")*B2
