asked on

Centos 7 server and centos desktop typical scenarios where Microsoft technology is not used

I would like to know for centos server and centos desktop without using windows active directory or win 10 clients
What are services need to be installed on centos server and what business apps need to be installed on cent os client
For example in windows env server has Active directory,Sql ,Exchange ,Iis,Sap , Network Printers and win 10 client join active directory and we map network path  for data and printers as we have outlook connected to exchange and most apps either have client as sap or web based
How will be the scenario with centos 7 servers and centos desktops in Business environment??

Much depends on what functions, services your centos server will perform
You can have openldap/nis, bind DNS, MySQL/mariadb/PostgreSQL, etc, Apache (web) php, ........

Much depends on what the business does, you can have Linux samba4+AD DC and Windows workstations joined and managed

Kindly I am speaking for linux servers and linux desktops only without any windows servers or desktops what are equivalence for windows to be deployed without use of windows
So usually in windows environment the following are deployed  listed below  what are equivalence  in linux( Centos server- Desktop) without  using any of Microsoft Technology
  List of apps in windows
Exchange
Sap
Outlook
System center configuration
Mobile device Management solutions on premises
Service now Ticketing systems
Imaging and auto deployment as Sccm
Microsoft Teams
Powershell or Batch
Sql server databases
Scom for Monitoring
 Print server
Active directory
Erp application as Microsoft Gp,Crm,Ax
Group policy managent
Crm dynamics
Backup solutions
Storage
So on

So what is equivalence  in business from linux server and clients  for everything listed above or more without  any Microsoft or windows technology
Nis/openldap are the directory services that facilitate central management/access control
Bind DNS,
GUI X-windowing
OpenOffice, etc.

As noted you have to define what your needs are and whether all the application you are looking for are open source that you would deploy.

This is the point why most use Windows. There is a defined structure, you pay for hardware and licenses and you are rolled up and ready to go.

It is uncommon in a non-technical environment, at least I've not seen, where a business deployed a complete Linux solution.

if you are running in Graphic mode on the Linux system, it varies whit which Graphical desktop you choose, GNOME, KDE, ETc.
each comes with email client applications. Thunderbird, firefox, etc.

Exchange - linux has several mail servers postfix, sendmail, exim, qmail, courier, etc. Much depends on how sendmail in personal opinion is not an easy setup.
CUPS handles printing with lp
OPENLDAP is the directory service on which Active Directory is setup,.

try the following, get linux mint ISO  and explore it liveCD boot and check it out.

If you need specific application such as PhotoShop and AutoCad, you should consider staying with windows workstations while setting up a samba4 with AD DC functionality to minimize your cost for server hardware and windows server OS costs.
make sure you setup two linux to provide redundancy ...
Some commercial products have newer version suitable to run on linux windows sql server 2017 has a linux/unix version.

I am not going to go a product at a time to match your list.

Look for opensource by category of interest to you.
