Simple question: I have been testing Hyper-V Server 2019 (the free barebone) and I cannot create more then 128 vm and I search and found no information that mentionne there is a limitation for that. They all say that as long has I have RAM I am fine and I have loads of them.
If this is the limitation, I will need to go back to Proxmox....

Thanks for the info

I always thought it was limited by hardware resources. What hardware resources do you have ?

and what VM sizes ?

Do you get an error message ?

this link does also state 128!

this also states 1024

Microsoft definitely indicates 1024 guests per host.

With 2048 virtual processors per host total.

If you are running all VMs with 32 vCPUs means 64 VMs on that host.

It's all in the way the resources are balanced across the guests.

Are you receiving error messages?  Saying you can't create more is vague... what exactly is happening when you try?

what is the size of the VM ?

e.g. 1GB, how much memory has the host got 128GB ?

how many VMs are running 128?

Server Manager --> Event Logs --> Microsoft --> Windows Hyper-V*

There is a series of role specific logs in the Event Logs. I suggest digging in there.

Could be hitting a NUMA boundary.

We finally decided to go back to Proxmox... it was faster then trying to figure out what is the limitation here.
Thank you guys!
