freezing multiple columns in excel. Tried chosing cell and then freeze pane but wont freeze

Choose ONE whole row or column, then freeze

That's the only working way. Any other way (selecting cells, or multiple rows/cols) will fail.
To freeze two columns place the cursor on the third column.

To freeze two rows place the cursor on the third row.

To freeze two columns and 2 rows place the cursor on C3.
