The index of the column in the search range to search for the value in D6.
In your case column DG.

Yes the 6 is column 6 of the lookup range DB10 to DG628, so would be column DG

The vlookup will look for the value from D6 in range DB10 to DB628 (the first column of the specified range) and will return the value from the 6th column of the range, ie DG.

So, if the lookup finds the value of D6 in DB52 it will return the value from DG52
