Choosing which updates to get with Windows 8 and avoiding those for Windows 10.

Windows 8 laptop and we get update alerts every hour mainly because we have delayed them so many times. We went ahead and said ok to updates and after 20 minutes it was only 7% through. It said there could be a few restarts. I abandoned that in favor of seeing the updates and by some searching I did find a list. All were for Windows 8 = good. There was one for Windows 10. I'd like to disable that one. Where will I find those settings?

there are numerous updates that have been coded to apply to both win 10 and 8.   so when you download updates you will receive both sets where they apply.  win 8 only and win8/10 combined.

I don't have Windows 10 and this device can not handle 10 so I'll never upgrade even if a free upgrade came with the laptop. I saw one on the list that was specifically related to Windows 10.
and if you look up the kB you will see that the kB also applies to win 8. likely .net.   even if you never install win 10 you will see these combined updates pop up time to time

From another question I thought there was a way to see the updates and choose the ones you want.  Maybe this one is not optional. I waited close to an hour and at 22% in I stopped. When I'm done traveling and home where I can just let it run for 2-3 hours, I'll do it.

The screen said there would be several restarts. There were none and I got a couple updates and the alerts stopped.
I have a non activated Windows 10 Pro per another question.
