Hi Expert,

I need a WIN2016 core installation.
The support guy installed a WIN2016 with GUI on a VM.

Is there a way to change this ?
Can I reinstall , inplace, the WIN2016 again , but just the core version ?

Important, I have no access to the vcenter, can I do this inplace upgrade and finish the install ?
Or do I need access to the vcenter or ESXi ?

I am pretty sure that you cannot upgrade to core.
You can reinstall and use core, of course.

Nope, it's a rebuild.

or a reinstall, whichever way you want to put it, you'd need to mount the iso and boot from it essentially.

@P V - have you tested these commands yourself?
I know they were valid for Windows 2012 but in Windows 2016 the conversion is not possible anymore.

That powershell does not work on 2016!

also if you look at that Powershell it's dated 2013! not 2016!

Server-GUI-Shell not valid for feature name or role!

So it's back to RE-FORMAT, RE-INSTALL, AND you will need Console Access, but why are you not rolling out templates!!! It puzzles me why people are still wasting time inserting isos!!!

Unlike some previous releases of Windows Server, you cannot convert between Server Core and Server with Desktop Experience after installation. If you install Server with Desktop Experience and later decide to use Server Core, you should do a fresh installation.
