I think any projector is fine as long as it has a port/cable type that can be adapted. This brings me to my point, you can try a higher resolution
 Android adapter as a solution. In which case, you would not need to pruchase an entirely new projector if they already have one.

Yes, USB Type-C is what most, if not compatible with all Android phones' charging ports. It's supposedly an international standard. The link you provided is also a good alternative as it accounts for Micro USB which is for I-Phones. If you only need it for Android phones, you can consider the one I suggested above since it accounts for both VGA and HDMI sources.
