unable to assign a static IP to a 2019 VM?

I’m unable to assign a static IP address to 2019 VM, it picks up DHCP addresses just fine but when I add static it changes to a 169.254.231.x address, the IP address I’m assigning isn’t in use.  I’m stumped 🤔

I don't think it has anything to do with being a VM. What is the operating system on the guest server? When does it change, at restart, or as soon as you click OK? It also sounds lie you are getting a default DHCP address, so is it showing as static, or DHCP?

But since it is a VM, I would remove the network card and restart the guest. Then add the network card back in.

2019 host and 2019 VM, it happens as I press ok on the 2019 VM however it happened on another server on reboot.
ah the static IP address shows up as 10.1.1.2 (duplicate) with ipconfig /all
So Microsoft Windows Server 2019, then.

Anyway, that sounds like your problem there. Have to figure out how you got two IPs.
