Cost Friendly Remote Office Compute / Storage Solutions

We have a remote office that has 50 people at that site. All of the main network resources i.e VDI, domain services, file shares etc... are in our main office. We would like to add a  small compute presence at the site in case the link between sites ever goes down. Please note, we are not worried about VDI since we are planning one moving this to the cloud. I have been looking into a appliance HCI solution like VxRails which is very nice, but pricey. What are others using for  compute / storage at their remote sites?

Site link goes down, then your cloud link could be down too. Both my remote sites and data centers have 2 paths, so not much of a reason to believe that cloud would be up and your main office down, unless you don't have redundant power at main site.

What local compute resources do you need? I use a single server to host a local file/print server and a RDP session host.
What do you want on the satellite site? The file shares?  VX-Rails seems like over-kill for your situation..

ASKER

We do have redundant links in place, but the extra compute will help the end user experience as well. We are looking to move the following services to the remote site:

DC,
DHCP
DNS
Printing
File Shares

Storage

Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.
