Excel Date/Time field exports as String (Computer-Specific Issue)

Hi there,  I have an excel file connected to a crystal report.  This file has a date/time field called gift date.  When the data is extracted on one machine, the field is recognized as date/time, as it should be.  When the data is extracted and merged with the report on another machine it is a string field. The exported file is an Excel 97-2003 (options are limited in this older software) - do you have any ideas on how to work around this?

thank you -

Check the local region settings for each computer in the Control Panel.

If the date is for example 12/14/2019 and the region is set to US the it would recognise it as a date (14 December) but if set to UK it would not recognise it as a date as it would try and read it as the 12th day of month 14

It's 11.5 - but works fine on my machine and someone else's machine - they are using office 2010
