Domain upgraded to 2016 but Forest Still at 2008

We have just completed upgrading the client’s domain from 2008 to 2016. Raised the domain level to Windows 2016 successfully however the forest still shows 2008. When we try to run ADPREP /forestprep it comes back saying it already has and fails. Thoughts?

The forest functional level is something you raise just like the domain functional level. It is NOT something done with ADprep.

Adprep is something you run before you can upgrade.  Raisong functional levels (forest or domain) is something you do AFTER you've upgraded and retired older DCs.

Thanks for the clarification. Thoughts on how to manually raise the Forest? I would have thought they were connected to the operations level.

Would an Exchange 2013 server running on Server 2008 prevent the forest upgrade? Both DCs are 2019. The Exchange server is not a DC, but there is some integration with AD.

The problem was between the keyboard and chair... I did not look in the correct area. Forest is now successfully updated and I am slinking off to find a rock to crawl under...
