Server installation enquiry

Gonna to install a windows 2016 server on new purchased physical server. Is it common to install a hypervisor and host the windows server guest instead of install the windows 2016 server on the physical server directly?

Depends really on the Hypervisor, if you select Microsoft, you've got to install Windows Server or Hyper-V first on bare metal.

Also really depends on your plan for the server.
