speaker issue

Hi,

I have a win10 in the office, I was off yesterday but worked remotely from home.
This morning the speaker is not working. I tried to plug in an external speaker, no luck. But BT speaker works.

When I went to the settings, everything seems normal, the "bar" is moving up and down indicating the "source" is there.

I have tried the following:
check windows update
check AV
run audio troubleshoot

any ideas? thanksAnnotation-2019-12-04-075318.gif

Is that the sound in your monitor? Can you somehow disconnect that and try the built in system speaker instead?

Author

Commented:
no, the external speaker is not in the monitor. It is a regular speaker.

Also, I have tried the built in speaker, the bar is "moving", but no sound.  Strange.  thanks

Review master volume settings from the system tray.

Author

Commented:
yes, I have checked that.  thanks

It seems everything is working properly, just no sound. I checked the volume as well. thanks

Has the computer been restarted?
Is there sound from the headphone jack?

Author

Commented:
Yes, the first thing I did was to restart the pc.

Strange thing is no, there is no sound from the jack although the pc shows a headphone is plug in.

unless the monitor plugged into the nvidia display card has  speakers use try the headphone jack with the external speaker plugged into the headphone jack.

look in device manager for error on sound card

An external speaker does not work either. Only BT speakers. and everything seems to be fine in the device manager. thanks

and you tested if a headhone worked ok ?
personally, i would remove all speakers from the board - then test with only ONE speaker at the time in the green socket
and test then all there

Commented:
okay, I will bring another speaker in tomorrow. But, when I unplug all the speakers (just one), the built-in speakers should work, right? but it does not..thanks

i want to test each speaker - that's all, and since front speakers work, that's how to test them

Author

Commented:
okay, the built-in speakers are not working.
I have tested my external speaker on different PC, it works fine.  My pc is a DELL XPS 8930, it has a front and back jack for the headphone, none of them is working. But PC can pick up the external speaker when plugging in.

thanks

test all your speakers on that different pc - to be sure they DO work

Author

Commented:
yes, I just brought another speaker and plugged into two jacks, still no good.  What puzzle me is even built in speakers do not work. thanks

i would then test if the card works on another pc; if so, you'll need to repair the OS, update all drivers, or such -  even a fresh install may be needed
you can try a system restore to a date it was ok also
