I have a new PC with two Displayport connections for my monitors.  My monitors only has a VGA connection and an HDMI connection.  Would it be better to connect the monitors to the VGA connection or the HDMI connection?  I need to purchase the adapters and need to know which would be better to connect to. (VGA to Displayport or HDMI to Displayport).

Thank you

Either will work. The HDMI would be better although for business functions you will not know the difference.

If you have VGA available on the monitors, it's unlikely it would make a difference, but in fact it depends on resolution and frequence. HDMI allows for much higher resolution, and it is digital as DisplayPort is too.

Hi mmj1,

HDMI. It is likely to provide sharper video than the VGA. Also, HDMI can carry the audio...VGA cannot.

Rather than an adapter, you could simply get a DP-to-HDMI cable. Here's one that I've purchased...works great on my HP EliteBook:

If you do go with an adapter to use with an HDMI-to-HDMI cable, I suggest an active one, not passive. Here's one that I've purchased...also works great on my HP EliteBook:
