We just migrated second link on BGP on for customer. The link is up and advrtising customer prefix to the internet and is load sharing the traffic w/ another (different) providers' link (Separate from ours). The customer thinks that the Route distribution on our link is at least 20% less than other providers'. Can anyone comment on what could happening ? I looked thro' looking glass portals and our BGP link is not preferred (Mostly).  Please comment.

My initial question is does it depend on type of ISP Provider, (the other link is provided by Tier 1 ISP Provider)?

Thanks;

If you are advertising the customer prefixes out of both providers incoming traffic from various places will just choose the past with the shortest AS Path to get to your customer. The only way you'd be able to control that is to AS Prepend the customer prefixes to manipulate inbound traffic.

Fully understand your point and acknowledge it.. However, if the a Tier 1 Internet provider is paired with Tier 4 ISP provider in any corporation core router, T4 will always have few more extra stops on the way as compared to T1. So, that makes me think that traffic with least path of resistance would always be w/ T1.  Please comment.

Yes, you are correct. There is no way around that since Tier 1 ISP sits in the backbone of the internet.
